What Do You Call Someone Who Draws

Ally

Is there a amend word for drawer?

And I mean drawer as in someone who draws. Not the furniture lol. Drawer just sounds so wrong to me.

Edit: I'grand going with draftsman (I run into you NickyNeptune!). It's not perfect merely nothing ever is. Thank y'all for your fourth dimension!

That has more of a commercial connotation. I mean similar someone who but draws for their own sake, not for a volume, ad, etc.

level 1

Does it take to be a unmarried word? There's nix wrong with the word "artist" as modified by the medium the creative person uses. Pencil creative person, graphite creative person, charcoal artist, colored pencil creative person, watercolor creative person.. By modifying the word with a medium you have a very clear pic of what such an artist'southward work might wait like, whereas generic words similar "illustrator" could refer to anything from digitally produced vectors to oil paintings.

level ii

They just don't sound right. Information technology's too limiting and too specialized.

Illustrator is fine, fifty-fifty if you specialize in certain media, considering it's a task. An illustrator creates illustrations; pictures that tell a story. Information technology'south all most what yous're trying to convey, regardless of medium.

And I'm sorry to you and everyone else if I'm coming off difficult. It's just that I've been drawing all my life and I desire a title that fits that more concisely than artist.

level 1

How about a draftsman? I know they refer to people who draw well that way.

level 2

That's probably the closest to what I'm looking for. My agreement is that the people who are referred as draftsmen unremarkably do technical drawings for like building layouts or whatever. Would it still apply to a visual creative person?

level two

This is my estimate too.

An creative person may sketch for fun.

level one

Trouble might be more than that there are too many answers to this question. Sketcher, cartoonist, caricaturist, impressionist, realist, illustrator, etc. These are all specialized terms that tin can exist used for someone who draws. If you don't desire to become then specific and so your best bet is probably artist.

level i

I'm writing a script where this exact question is beingness asked. I love it. I have utilized some of what has been talked nearly in this post then thank you very much for the aid.

level 2

Lol glad this quondam thread was of use to someone.

level two

Sketches are more quick drawings or practice or rough ideas. I'm looking more for something to depict an artist who specializes in drawing and would spend hours resulting in a complete, finished cartoon.

level 1

Illustrator or graphic creative person.

level 2

Not everyone who draws is an illustrator or illustrates. Graphic art is likewise broad. Thank you though.

level i

Here's ane for you: renderer.

(One of my art teachers said information technology to me long ago.)

level 2

Illustration is related to drawing, but information technology's its own affair equally well. I've taken drawing classes and I've taken illustration classes. At that place'due south some drawing lessons involved in illustration for sure, but by and large it'southward most ideas and conveying a message or story to people. Drawing classes are predominately strictly about drawing itself. At that place is no shared visual language or symbolism involved, actually. Just drawing.

I appreciate the link lol. Definitely not a tracer.
